In 2001, multiple individuals approached the City with one great idea. After several brainstorm sessions, the Mountain Market was formed. The mission was to create a venue for local farmers and artists to sell their goods and to improve the variety of products available to the community that are locally made, baked, grown or raised in the Fernie area. It was a small and quaint beginning, with some weeks only having three vendors. But, it wouldn’t stay small for long! In 2019, the Mountain Market became a project of the Wildsight Elk Valley Branch.
Now the market has blossomed to a park packed with vendors each week throughout the summer. From local organic growers selling freshly picked fruit, veggies, locally-grown meat, herbs and flowers; to herbalists crafting soaps; while bakers sell their tasty pies and homemade sourdough bread; and local artisans showcase their latest creations. Check out the Mountain Market events calendar to make sure you don’t miss out on special events like the Fernie Childrens’ Festival that is hosted at the Market each year.
Sunday’s are now known as Market Day in Fernie
